In 2011, Dún Laoghaire was the constituency of Eamon Gilmore, soon to become Tánaiste but later to resign. He is not contesting this election, so Labour's hopes for a seat here rest on Cllr. Carrie Smyth. Fine Gael are running incumbent TD Mary Mitchell O'Connor and Cllr. Maria Bailey. The other Fine Gael TD for Dún Laoghaire, Seán Barrett, will automatically keep his seat because he is the current Ceann Comhairle, although there are rumours that he too may step down. If he remains, it means that this four-seat constituency is technically a three-seater. Mitchell O'Connor and People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett are the only two sitting members campaigning to keep their seats, but Fianna Fáil have former TD Mary Hanafin looking to retake hers.

TDs elected in 2011:
Eamon Gilmore (Lab), Seán Barrett (FG, now CC), Mary Mitchell O'Connor (FG), Richard Boyd Barrett (PBP)
