The 1925 Seanad election was the only popular Seanad (Senate) election in the history of the state. The entire state formed a single, 19-seat constituency, with voters given a rather impractical choice of 76 candidates...

The 2013 Meath East by-election occurred after the death of Minister of State for Food, Horticultureand Food Safety and Fine Gael Meath East TD Shane McEntee. While contested by numerous parties, including the new Direct Democracy Ireland, Fine Gael handily retained the seat with Helen McEntee succeeeding her father.


Referendum 1992: Abortion and the 'X' Case
Abortion became a major issue once more, and the 
events of 1992 would cause it to remain one for twenty years.The Irish electorate expressed their opinions on the issue through three simultaneous referenda.
